Where Do Trending Celebrities Vacation?

by Thursday, March 3, 2016

When you are trying to plan your next vacation, do you ever wonder where do trending celebrities vacation? I know I do. My thinking is, if it’s good enough for them, it’s got to be good enough for me, right? I mean, they can literally go anywhere they want. It’s not like money is an issue.  The world is essentially their oyster. I decided I wanted to find out for myself. There are so many celebrities out there so I had to narrow it down a bit. I chose the top 10 trending celebrities on Twitter, in order, according to the number of their followers. If they aren’t influencers, than I don’t know who is? You may be surprised to where they go?  Maybe this will inspire you to want to go there too?

1. KATY PERRY (@katyperry/83,818,992 followers on Twitter)

This past June 2015, Katy Perry traveled to the Greek Islands, during her hiatus from her Prismatic World Tour. She vacationed with her family, including her older sister and her baby niece. This photo was taken in Mykonos with a backdrop of the Aegean Sea, with her instagram caption, “Oh my Goddess”

2. JUSTIN BIEBER (@justinbieber 76,286,692 followers on Twitter)

Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin, daughter of Stephen Baldwin, spent the holidays in Anguilla with Justin’s dad and siblings. The couple claims that they are just good friends, but they seem pretty cozy in their pictures? I wonder what Selena thinks about this?

thewanderlustyogi.netAlso spotted in Anguilla: Kendall Jenner, Harry Styles, Jon Bon Jovi, Ronald Perelman, Shia LaBeouf, Liam Neeson, Ethan Hawk, Uma Thurman, Kevin Bacon, Robert DeNiro, Toby Macuire and Dustin Hoffman. (It is said that these celebs go to Anguilla now instead of their usual St. Bart to escape the paparazzi- unfortunately it looks like not for long)

3. TAYLOR SWIFT (@taylorswift13 72,059,519 followers on Twitter)

This past December, Taylor Swift took her entire tour crew on vacation to Australia. At the final leg of her 1989 World Tour she gave her squad a much needed holiday. Her and 125 crew members spent their vacay on Hamilton Island, Australia.

4. BARACK OBAMA (@BarackObama 70,564,093 followers on Twitter)

I don’t know why I was surprised to see that President Barack Obama tops in Twitter followers. He is, after all, the coolest President the United States has ever had. I think it is fair to say that we all know that he is from Hawaii. Yes, that island in the United States of America Mr. Trump, not Kenya!  He and his family spend every Christmas season with family on the island of Oahu. On his visits, he enjoys golfing, spending time on the beach and eating a Hawaiian favorite, shave ice.

5. RIHANNA (@rihanna 56,724,337 followers on Twitter)

Rihanna, a native of Barbados, goes back home to vacation. Rihanna was there this past August 2015, to celebrate the Carnival Festival. She partied with her friends and enjoyed this annual event. She may be a force to be reckoned with in America, but she never forgets where she came from.

6. LADY GAGA (@ladygaga 56,424,580 followers on Twitter)

While on tour this past summer with Tony Bennet for their collaborative album, Cheek to Cheek , Lady Gaga took a little beach break in the Bahamas in June 2015. Although her career has never been so busy, as she notes in her caption on her photo on Instagram, “I take a Bahama mama. Work hard, play hard. Work hard again, play harder.”, she makes sure she takes time for herself and her loved ones, especially her fiance, Taylor Kinney, star of NBC’s Chicago Fire.

7. ELLEN DEGENERES (@TheEllenShow 54,884,493 followers on Twitter)

Ellen DeGeneres and wife Portia deRossi spent the holidays with friends and family on St. Barth. On their holiday , they strolled along the shops, relaxed on the beach and dined on a yacht with Kendall Jenner and Harry Styles. These two love birds frequent this Caribbean island, as well as many other celebrities.  This is definitely a favorite among the rich and famous.  Maybe because St. Barth has a variety y of designer boutique, many fine-dining options, yachts and amazing views and it’s not too far of a flight from LA? In any case, a ton of the elite come to vacation on St. Barth.

Also spotted in St. Barth: Gwen Stefani, Beyonce and Jay Z, Lindsay Lohan, Miranda Kerr, Derek Jeter, Mariah Carey, Leonardo DiCaprio, Heidi Klum, Jessica Alba, Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, Channing Tatum, Paul McCartney, George Lucas, Prince, Paris Hilton, and Star Jones. (This place has got to be awesome!)

8. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE (@jtimberlake 52,427,307 followers on Twitter)

During Justin Timberlake’s, 20/20 Experience World Tour, him and his wife Jessica Biel spent some time in New Zealand.  They are extremely private about their relationship and sharing pictures of themselves. That’s why it was rare to see this Instagram picture on Justin’s account with the caption, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it” – a quote for the fictional movie character Ferris Bueller. On their vacation, they enjoyed hiking, spending time on the black sand beaches, exploring caves and being away from the public eye.

9. BRITNEY SPEARS (@britneyspears 44,287,656 followers on Twitter)

This past summer, July 2015, Britney Spears, her two sons and her boyfriend, Charlie Ebersol vacationed in Hawaii. She enjoyed her time off from her Las Vegas shows, relaxing on the beach. She didn’t just relax though, she was spotted doing very difficult yoga poses while at the beach in Kauai. She is clearly determined to squeeze in some exercise, even while on vacation. Namaste!

10. KIM KARDASHIAN (@KimKardashian 41,014,992 followers on Twitter)

Last August 2015, Kim Kardashian and the whole Kardashian clan vacationed together in St. Barts. As stated earlier, this is definately a hot spot for the trending celebs. Kim being very pregnant still wore a tiny bikini and enjoyed playing in the ocean with her daughter, niece and nephew. Kim, her sisters, and her mom relaxed on the beach, shopped, dined at exclusive restaurants and went yachting. Most of the time however, the girls focused their vacation on taking their best Instagram photos of themselves. Well of course they did!

In researching the places that trending celebrities vacation, I found that they have trends within their circles too. This includes where they live, where they shop, where they dine, where they party and also where they vacay.  It seems like they influence each other on where the hot-spots are for A-Listers, whether it be The Hamptons, Hawaii, St. Barts, St. Tropez or Cabo.  Most likely, if you spot one celebrity, you can be sure to find another one to follow.

I’m looking into my summer vacation currently and now Hawaii and St. Barts is high on my radar. I doubt I’ll be able to stay at the posh, high-end and exclusive resorts where the trending celebrities stay, but at least I can be close. Come to think of it, maybe I don’t want to be near them? It could be depressing.

Traveling Through Terror

by Monday, November 30, 2015

Over the last few days, due to the horrific events that has happened in Paris and Beirut, my normally excited, cheerful wander-lusting, women’s travel group https://www.facebook.com/groups/girlswhotravel/, has now become scared. Many sharing their condolences, some stories of first hand accounts, and others now considering rerouting or canceling, all together, future travel plans. Traveling through terror is something that many women, or men for that matter, are afraid to do.

This is understandable, but also very sad. The normally, bubbly and enthusiastic globetrotting girls, are,  instead of talking about upcoming trips, and sharing amazing photos of exotic locations, are now asking advice on if they should go on their previously planned trip to Paris or anywhere in Europe at all.  Many are talking about all of the deaths and some are discussing the bigotry that has now, and sadly, not surprising, that has spiked against Muslims.thewanderlustyogi.net

One girl shared that she was in the club when the attacks happened and laid on top of dead bodies, pretending she was dead to save herself. It was very scary to hear about and we were all so happy that she was okay. Another Muslim girl shared that since the attacks, she has been kicked out of another travel group because of her race[religion]. It was awful to hear and we all gave her words of comfort and acceptance.

Now these women, are in reality, strangers. I don’t think I’ve met any of them personally, all except the four girls that I encouraged to join the group, but we all feel like sisters.

It’s a very weird and beautiful thing. There are  over 20,000 active members worldwide in the girls who travel group; coming from all races, religions, socioeconomic backgrounds, ages, belief systems, etc,  yet this group has that common bond of the love of travel. We give each other travel advice, inspire each other that we can travel solo, support each other during breakups or hardships, and come together during a crisis, like we did when a girl was mugged at knife-point in Sri Lanka and came to us for help.  The outpouring of assistance made me so proud to be a member of this group. We were able to give her the phone numbers and address of her Embassy and contacted her mother. Thankfully she is totally fine and after her return home, updated us that she was okay, and how appreciative she was from all of our support.thewanderlustyogi.net

Many of these girls have since joining the group, have done meet-ups and some became long-term travel partners. I hope to someday, through my travels, end up meeting one of these lovely ladies. This group has something magical about it. Most of us can’t go a day without popping in just to say hello or read some advice or a story that one of us has shared.

Through this group, I have been inspired to  finally get the courage to take my first solo trip, which is coming in just two short weeks, to Belize.  This group also helped me find an amazing travel steal, where I got tickets from Boston to San Jose, Costa Rica, roundtrip for $150.00!!  This group also gave me insight on places I my have never considered visiting before, such as Tel Aviv or places I have never heard of, like Seychelles. I also felt a connection when girls would share their heartfelt break up stories and how travel gave them a new lease on life.

Seychelles, Africa

Since I started writing this post a few weeks ago, I stopped it altogether, midway. I was at a point where my social media was a constant stream of bigotry, anger and hatred. I literally needed to just get away from it all. I decided it was best for me to go on a social media detox for a few weeks, to reset and regroup my emotional state and disconnect a bit.thewanderlustyogi.net

This was one of the best decisions I’ve made in a long time.  I was in tune with my body enough to notice that the emotional distress I was having, due to all of the upsetting things I was reading, was actually taking a toll on my health. I couldn’t sleep, I had trouble eating, I felt teary at times, out of the blue, I felt agitated and extremely stressed.thewanderlustyogi.net

In my absence from social media; I read, spent quality time with my family and friends, where I was actually completely present, I meditated, did yoga and through this I felt a subtle change happening in my body. It was a cleansing and it was exactly what I needed.

Now that I am back, I am happy to report that although things in the media are still heated and distressing, my girls who travel group is back to its old self again. I was so relieved and happy to see, that the massive posts of asking if people should cancel their trips, were now filled with stories and pictures of girls on their travels all over the world, some even in Paris. This made me smile.

This world can sometimes be a very cruel and scary place, but when you think about all the good it has, you realize that the world can continue to hold beauty and love if you choose to seek it out.thewanderlustyogi.net

How the Periscope App is Changing the World of Travel Blogging

by Monday, October 19, 2015

What is Periscope?

If you haven’t heard of the new app called Periscope, then let me fill you in.  This new app creation is owned by twitter and was released in March 2015. This app allows you to live stream what you are doing at the exact time you are doing it.  People can stream videos from all over the world, 24 hours a day. It’s almost like Skype calling, not just one person, but to EVERYONE you know, or don’t know, for that matter (which can seem a little scary to think about)! If that’s not cool enough, in addition to the viewers being able to watch your video stream, they also get to interact with you. How the periscope app is changing the world of travel blogging? I’ll show you.thewanderlustyogi.net

Why is Periscope great for Travel Bloggers?

Travel bloggers use their personal blog, social media platforms, such as Facebook, twitter, instagram and Pinterest to share their photos and travel stories. Some even use YouTube to post videos and many also have started using the snapchat app to share quick feeds of what they’re up to,  but while these platform are great, there are a few minor things that can make using Periscope that much sweeter.thewanderlustyogi.net

Periscope vs Other Social Media Platforms

First of all, writing a blog post about a particular destination takes time to create the content and edit it. Your readers may not get to hear or read about your latest trip until you get it just right, which depending on location and wi-fi connection, could be a while. With Periscope, they get to see it instantly!

Same goes for YouTube. Yes, YouTube is a great and personal way to share videos of your trips, but you usually have to wait until you are back at your hotel room, hostel or airbnb rental to upload your videos to share. With Periscope, none of that is necessary, it’s immediate!

Then there is snapchat. Another totally cool and fun app, and I follow a ton of travel bloggers that way. The thing is with snapchat though, is there is only a 10 second allowance for video feeds. Yes, you can keep adding more snaps, but it makes it chopping and less intimate. With Periscope you get a flowing stream that allows you to not have to keep stopping to add more “snaps”.thewanderlustyogi.net

Periscope is the Best Way to Engage with you Audience

Periscope can be an extremely useful tool in engaging with your audience as a travel blogger. This app not only allows your readers to have an up-to-the-minute live feed of your whereabouts, but also allows them to interact with you, by sending you cute hearts (of approval) or even asking you questions on the spot! This allows you to be more helpful to your readers about a location, by answering questions instantly, (that you may not have known they had otherwise), and can also make your audience feel as though they are with you on your adventure.thewanderlustyogi.net

Looking Forward to my First Periscope Campaign

I haven’t had a chance to send out a live stream yet, since I just found out about this app a few weeks ago. I don’t know how that slipped by me, but I am looking forward to using it on my upcoming, “first ever solo trip”  to Belize in December. However, I have watched many other’s live streams myself and have become a bit addicted. It kind of makes me feel voyeuristic watching, but hey, they don’t have to live cast, right?

Who I Follow on Periscope

Currently, I am particularly enjoying following a few travel bloggers that are on it,  @theblondeabroad and @2MonkeysTravel.  Kiersten from http://www.TheBlondeAbroad.com is always streaming and I just caught her latest one of her paragliding in San Diego, California a few days ago.  Also, a few weeks ago, Kach and Jonathan from http://www.twomonkeystravelgroup.com had a Q and A live stream, where they answered questions about their travel blog and how they got their start, and how they make money to continuously travel. It was very informative and I was even able to ask a question myself, and get a response LIVE! …………………………………..Check them out!

Pericope allows people to communicate from anywhere live, and allow travel bloggers to really connect with their audience. How awesome is it to be able to watch your favorite travel blogger and ask them any question you want, (that they feel like answering, that is) while you join them on their adventures?

I can’t wait to use it in Belize and maybe by using it, I won’t feel like I’m alone on my trip?

Where I’m headed! Ambergris Caye, Belize!! ….”La Isla Bonita” wicked stoked!! (sorry about the Boston slang)

Do you use Periscope, either live streaming yourself or watching others, maybe you do both?
